Open Steak Sandwich

Open Steak Sandwich


Step 1. Heat the oil in a non-stick frypan, add the mushrooms, onion and seasonings and cook until tender. Lift from pan and keep warm. Season the steak and cook for 3-4 minutes or until cooked as desired.

Step 2. Place toast on a serving plate. Top with spinach, cheese, steak, mushroom mixture and capsicum. Secure sandwich with a skewer and pickled onion.


  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 4 small mushrooms (120g), sliced
  • 1 small onion (60g), thinly sliced
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 x 150g lean sizzle/sandwich steak
  • 1 slice (35g) wholegrain or dark rye bread
  • 1/3 cup (10g) baby spinach
  • 1x 15g slice reduced fat Swiss cheese
  • 1 small (20g) roasted red capsicum
  • 1 small pickled onion (30g)
